In the early 90s, Gaudreau first experienced with composting and green residue gathering using 3-way collection with metal containers dropped off at strategic locations easily accessible to the population. Today, 360-litre carts are used in the household collection.
Compostable materials are then forwarded to various sites such as the one in Saint-Rosaire operated by the Company where composting platforms have been erected. The latter comply with the high-level environment safety design standards, especially thanks to lixiviate processing and the precautions taken at the time of their installation (membranes, drainage systems, etc.)
A special process is used to improve compost maturation by means of weekly swath turnovers using specially designed equipment, which allows for increasing swath temperature through the aeration it produces and thereby accelerating decomposition. The Company techniques were a crowning success since the compost produced from grass, leaves, wood chips, garden and table waste complies with most of the AA standard criteria of the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ), and can therefore be used in vegetable gardens and flower beds.
Add-on products, such as garden composts, mulching material for landscaping and gravel are also available.
